Japanese Relief Rally: How You Can Help

(This post will remain at the top of the page for the next few days.  Scroll down for today’s deals.)

As I sit here thinking of the words to share, my mind races and my heart sinks.  Looking through photos, reading the accounts, and watching videos of such widespread loss and destruction- along with continued uncertainty- in Japan after last week’s earthquake and tsunami, I struggle to know what to say.

But I do have an idea of what we can do.

First, we can pray.  We can pray for comfort and hope for those affected.  We can pray for endurance, rest, and energy for those who are, hands-on, counting losses and rebuilding in Japan.

Next, we can give.  I know times are tights for many, and giving may require a sacrifice.  But I do believe that, in the U.S., most can give something.

Here are a few ways you can give:

1. From your cell phone, text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10.00 to the Red Cross.  Quick and easy.

2. Donate whatever amount you can through World Vision. They are currently mobilizing relief teams.

3. Doctors Without Borders is sending teams of doctors to help, and you can support their efforts.

Groupon Girl is also pitching in with a group of other bloggers to multiply your giving efforts.

For each link or comment left on this post for the next week that shares how you are helping (by prayer, donation, etc.), I will donate $0.50 to World Vision‘s relief fund, up to $300. If you have a blog, write a blog post sharing how you are helping and how your readers can do the same.  Then leave the link below.  Or, if you don’t blog, just leave a comment sharing how you are helping.  (Really, folks, it’s a bit tacky to leave spam in the linky below.  All links to posts not related to the Japanese relief effort will be deleted.)

Plus, you can visit the blogs below, and these bloggers will also contribute per comment and blog link.  It’s an easy way to multiply your giving!

  • Just donated via text message to Red Cross. Continually praying….

  • Thank you for this post and encouraging everyone to donate. And thank you for suggesting Doctors Without Borders – it hadn’t occurred to me to donate to them. I donated $10 to Doctors without Borders.

  • Our family donated through Salvation Army and we are praying for all those affected.

  • Praying for all affected by this tragedy. May the people of Japan hear the good news of Christ and be drawn to him during this devestating time.

  • In addition to my prayers, I am planning on sending a contribution to American Red Cross.

  • Many prayers to the people of Japan.

  • Dear Lord, please be with all those affected by this horrible tragedy. Please give them the peace of your love.

  • Through prayer and through World Vision. My husband and myself both love Japan-its culture, its people, its food.

  • we are short on funds…so we are helping through prayers.

  • Wow this is awesome. And FYI, the quake got upgraded to a 9.0! Not that I have any concept what that feels like but the footage on TV is like something from a movie.

  • Prayers and more prayers to Japan. Thank you for this generous gesture you are doing for them. The tv footage is unreal, I would have never imagined or could imagine anything of that magnitude.

  • My mom was in Japan on business when the earthquake hit. She was getting into an elevator when it hit. She said the earthquake was horrible and the aftershocks were pretty bad too. She was terrified. I am lucky to finally have her home safe and sound. My heart goes out to all of the families that are affected by this tragedy and I applaud you for giving such a charitable donation to help people in their greatest time of need!

  • Thank you all for doing this and posting this.
I appreciate all guys your thoughts and efforts.

  • This is a great idea! I donated to the Red Cross.

  • Japan holds an extra special place in my heart: I lived there for several years. My heart is hurting for the people of Japan. Thank you for being so generous and donating to help them recover.

  • Thank you for your generosity! It is wonderful to see all of the links and comments. It is so devastating and heartbreaking to watch the news and see the images. Praying and hoping.

  • Thank you for donating this way it is very thoughtful.

  • I am sending my tutoring income for this week to World Vision. My 4 children are also giving up their allowances to serve the people of Japan. Thanks for being a “voice” to those in great need!

  • I can’t offer enough prayers or condolences for the people of Japan, but it won’t stop me from trying.

  • Thank you, and many prayers to those who are suffering in Japan.

  • My apologies for double-linking in the linky, feel free to delete #24! I’m so happy to see bloggers joining together to help in this crisis. Japan was my home for many years and I still have many dear friends there, so this tragedy is hitting especially close to my heart. I’ve posted a “how you can help” entry on my blog, as well as made various donations myself, $25 to Heart to Heart as well as smaller donations to other sites and some bucks through Swagbucks donation page.

  • i donated to red cross :)

  • Thoughts and prayers are with the Japanese in their time of need. I admire their enduring spirit and cannot imagine what it would be like if this were to happen to us.

  • I am a Christian. I go to Saint John Catholic Church on Sunday mornings. Our Church try to help by collecting money to feed the hungry, poor, and homeless. We pray for Japan during it’s hard times with the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor meltdowns.
